Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
As we begin this month of October, I wish to extend a warm welcome to a special time in the life of the Church: the month of the Holy Rosary, which we also dedicate with deep love to our Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary. She, as a tender Mother and faithful intercessor, always leads us to her Son, Jesus Christ.
The history of the Church reminds us that the Rosary has long been considered a powerful weapon against evil. In 1571, after the victory of Lepanto, Pope St. Pius V attributed that triumph to the intercession of the Virgin through the prayer of the Rosary. Since then, this devotion has been a source of hope and strength for millions of the faithful throughout the centuries. Every Hail Mary we recite is like a rose offered to Mary, and every mystery we contemplate is a profound meditation on the life of Christ.
For this reason, during this month, just as last year, I want to invite you to take on the challenge of praying the Rosary every day of October, offering our prayers for the intentions of Pope Leo XIV, for our Bishop Michael Burbidge, and for the pastoral activities of our parish. It is 31 days of prayer with the Rosary that I am convinced will bring abundant spiritual fruits. Always remember that with Mary as our intercessor, nothing is lost and everything is gained. Last week a link was sent to accept this challenge: I encourage you to join with faith and joy.
I would also like to extend a very special invitation: to those who have not yet decided, I encourage you to take an hour of prayer in our Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. The Lord is waiting for you to be with Him. Sadly, we still have hours without adorers; and if they are not filled, with a heavy heart I would have to close one day of adoration. I confess this would be a very painful decision for me, but unavoidable if there are not enough adorers. Please, consider dedicating one hour a week alone with the Lord; that hour will be a source of grace, peace, and strength for your life.
I also sincerely thank all those who have considered increasing their weekly offertory. This act of faith gives me hope that next year we will not face such a large deficit. I ask God to help us face this challenge, and I am sure that, with everyone’s collaboration, we will be able to overcome it.
Before concluding, I wish to express a very special word of thanks, on behalf of Father Ramón and myself, for all the prayers and expressions of kindness you offered last week on the occasion of Priesthood Sunday, celebrated in all the dioceses of the country. We felt your support and affection very deeply. The priestly vocation is a gift that God gives us in order to serve, and we could not persevere without your prayers. I ask you to continue praying not only for us, but for all priests, so that we may always be faithful and joyful shepherds after the Heart of Christ.
May this month of the Rosary lead us to grow in trust in Mary and in love for Jesus. I commend you each day in my prayers and at the altar.
In Jesus and Mary,
Fr. Diaz
