Be a Catechist

We are blessed to have dedicated catechists, aides, and volunteers who assist parents in the important task of bringing children closer to Christ and His Church. Say the Word and My Soul Shall be Healed is the theme for Catechetical Sundaynow scheduled for September 17, 2023 at 12:00PM. Catechists will be recognized for their vocation to the ministry of catechesis.

As required by the Diocese of Arlington, ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST be compliant with the Office of Child Protection. A Criminal Background Check needs to be completed in order for any person 18 years of age or older to help within the program and work with children. There is a second component, which is to attend a class to learn more about child protection and how to know when there are signs of misconduct with children. The class is roughly four hours and it is available in Spanish and in English.

Protecting God’s Children-Office for the Protection of Children and Young People (OPCYP)

In order to sign up for a class, please go to www.virtusonline.org to create an account. You will select Arlington, VA (Diocese)then it will take you to another page where you will have to create a User ID and Password. Once you have created your login, you will be asked to provide information, then it will ask you to answer three questions. Lastly, it will give you a list of all the Virtus sessions that are available and then have the option to select the session that fits best with your schedule as well as location and language preference (Locations and Language options may vary).
