Dear brothers and sisters,
This weekend, we celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. We solemnly celebrate the Eucharistic presence of Christ among us, the “gift par excellence”: “This is my body (…). This is my blood” (Mk 14:22, 24). The Eucharist is the presence of Christ among us. The risen and glorious Christ remains among us in a mysterious but real way in the Eucharist. This presence implies an attitude of Adoration on our part and an attitude of personal communion with Him. The Eucharistic presence assures us that He remains among us and accomplishes the work of salvation. The Eucharist is a mystery of faith. It is the center and key to the life of the Church. It is the source and root of Christian existence. Without the Eucharistic experience, the Christian faith would be reduced to a philosophy, but through faith, we know that this is not the case. It is the greatest miracle; it is His living presence that nourishes us and accompanies us at all times.
On this Sunday dedicated to the Eucharist, I want to emphasize the Adoration Chapel. During the month of May, we had difficulties covering the evening Adoration hours because we didn’t have enough adorers. I encourage those who haven’t taken the time to be with Jesus in the Eucharist to reflect and dedicate an hour a week. Eucharistic Adoration is the main lifeblood of the parish. I dare say the parish remains active thanks to the time we spend in Adoration. Let us dare to take some time with Jesus. If you’re interested in joining the Adoration Chapel, please speak to one of the priests or call the parish office. We will be happy to guide you through the process.
I also want to raise awareness about the ministerial reality. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion play a crucial role in our church, assisting in the distribution of the Eucharist during Mass and to the sick and homebound. We need more of these ministers because several of the current active ministers will no longer continue, some due to health reasons and others because they have relocated for work reasons. If anyone is interested, please get in touch with one of the priests or call the parish office so we can inform you about the process for joining this beautiful ministry.
On another note, we have already begun working on our Fifth Parish Festival, which this year will be held on August 16th from 12:00 pm to 10:30 pm. The festival will feature a variety of activities, including live music, games for children, and a raffle with exciting prizes. Last year was a success thanks to your participation, and we hope this year will be even better. You will receive more information in the coming weeks. I want to thank those who have already begun returning their raffle tickets. This year, we sent them out early, so you have the opportunity to bring them in. I also invite those who wish to sponsor a food booth, donate to purchase materials or sponsor a game for the children. Donations are welcome. If you would like to promote your company or business, please do not hesitate to contact the parish office to explain. All financial contributions are welcome.
Finally, registration for our Religious Education program is now open, and you can register as soon as possible. Remember, the sooner you do, the sooner we begin preparing the materials. I also invite those adults who have not yet completed their sacraments to register for the OCIA program and be able to receive the sacraments at next year’s Easter Vigil.
I am praying for you.
Fr. Alex
