Statement Regarding arrest of Church Volunteer at Queen of Apostles

9/19/17– Queen of Apostles Parish has been cooperating with Fairfax County police regarding possible theft at the parish. Through internal protocols and procedures, the parish noticed unusual activity that indicated some cash may have been stolen from Sunday collections. In collaboration with the Diocese of Arlington Finance Office, a brief internal investigation was initiated.  The resulting information was brought to Fairfax County police.  On September 17, the person in question was observed by police stealing funds and was arrested immediately. The parish will continue to work with police and hopes that the accused will provide full restitution for what was taken.

Queen of Apostles Parish and the Diocese of Arlington are fully committed to ensuring that the funds provided for use in parish operations and charitable ministries are protected. This is a duty we take seriously. The apprehension of the individual in this case is evidence of the effectiveness of our internal protocols and controls. We will continue to review our procedures to see where improvements can be made going forward.

Due to the charges and the on-going investigation, questions regarding the suspect should be directed to the Fairfax County Police.
